Nomadic Place, a workshop by Jordi Enrich at this year\u2019s IDEAS CITY Festival in New York City<\/h1>\n

Artist Jordi Enrich Jorba<\/a> repurposes inoperative hot-air balloons to create colorful, temporary structures that house community events, performances, and workshops.<\/h3>\n

Jordi Enrich Jorba: Nomadic Place<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Barcelona-based artist Jordi Jorba deconstructs and repurposes inoperative hot-air balloons with the aim of creating unique nomadic spaces. The balloons are transformed into colorful and exciting spaces to house performances and workshops, and make visible the role that architectural structures play in community building. Nomadic Place will explore the symbolism of community spaces and institutions in cities by inflating these structures in schools, gymnasiums, galleries, and parks, with the objective of rethinking the utility these places have toward the communities they serve.<\/p>\n

About IDEAS CITY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

IDEAS CITY explores the future of cities with culture as a driving force. A collaborative, civic, and creative enterprise, it builds on the New Museum\u2019s mission of \u201cNew Art, New Ideas\u201d by expanding the Museum beyond its walls into the civic realm. Through talks, panels, workshops, projects, performances, and exhibitions, IDEAS CITY investigates key issues, proposes solutions, and seeds concrete actions. Founded by the New Museum in 2011, it is a major collaborative initiative between hundreds of arts, education, and civic organizations. A biennial IDEAS CITY Festival (2011, 2013, 2015, etc.) takes place every other May in New York City, while Global Conferences are organized in cities around the world. Both New York Festivals brought over fifty thousand people to the Bowery neighborhood in 2011 and 2013, respectively. The theme for 2015 is The Invisible City. In 2013, IDEAS CITY explored the theme of Untapped Capital.<\/p>\n

IDEAS CITY Festival<\/a>, May 28-30, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2011, the first IDEAS CITY Festival took place over several days and included conferences, workshops, and a street fair that brought over fifty thousand people to the Bowery neighborhood. In 2013, IDEAS CITY was reprised in New York City and explored the theme of \u201cUntapped Capital.\u201d The theme for the next IDEAS CITY: NY in late May 2015 is Invisible City.<\/p>\n
